So in the rare event anyone bothers to watch & read my comments from this video here is my opinion.

Elden Ring is easily the most polarizing game I have played in years. I have never felt equal parts frustrated, annoyed, irritated, bored, burnout, and exhausted with any game. While at the same time amazed, impressed, awe-struck, and having lots of fun.

I feel like From Software made the mistake that other game developers have made in the past once that have become a "established" name. To loosely quote Cory Barlog who directed GoW 2 and GoW 2018. "You end up in a arms races, trying to constantly one-up your last game". And I feel this encapsulates so much of what is right and wrong with Elden Ring.

This game goes to such an extreme to constantly go over the time with everyone. Game Scope Size, List of Spells, Incantations, Ashes of War, Gearing Equipment, Enemy Variety, Boss Encounters, fancy moves, wierd wind ups, instant attacks, huge damage, bizarre timing, super-duper flashing anime presentation. I could go on and on.

From Software tried so damn hard to one-up themselves from previous entries that it damages the well curated design philosophy that was applied in their previous games (from Sekiro to Demons Souls). There is alot to love about Elden Ring and alot to have a brain aneurysm over.

The player character legit feels like an insignificant extra in a billion dollar budget film and all the bosses are major league Hollywood actors. Its like the player character doesn't even get a name in the credits just "random pleb who cutely tries to attack a lightning dragon whom gets their balloon popped".

You spend so much time watching, waiting, and evading so much shit to just to have the most glorious of privileges to attack a boss. I eventually set out to play Elden Ring and to fight this boss because everyone talked about Malenia like she was some rare unicorn in boss fights.

So after about 4 hours during a Sunday morning, form start to finish, I got my first Malenia kill. And all I can say is that I felt indifference. Even if I spent the time to accomplish a no-hit attempt. It would still mean that this boss is 10 pounds of dogshit in a 5 pound bag.

I had more fun beating Flame Lurker in Demons Souls.
