It is really annoying when you boot up your Windows machine to find out that there’s no audio. Upon booting up, you will notice a red cross on the volume mixer that is located on the right corner of the taskbar. The reason you are seeing a red cross on the volume mixer is because the Windows Audio service has stopped. Windows services ensure the functionality of different aspects of your operating system and therefore, if the Windows Audio service is not running, you won’t have any audio on your system.

As far as Windows Services are concerned, some of them are set on Automatic, while some are Manual type. Some may even be set at Delayed. Windows Audio Service is set on Automatic. This means that, whenever you start your computer, Windows will start this service by itself. But what if Windows is not able to start this service automatically? The result is, no sound at all from your system. Now suppose, you open Services window by running services.msc command, and try to start this service. What if you receive the following error?

Issues addressed in this tutorial:
no sound windows 10 laptop
no sound windows 10 headphones
no sound windows 10 after update
no sound windows 10 realtek
no sound windows 10 fix
no sound windows 10 hdmi to tv
no audio sound windows 10
airpods no sound windows 10
acer no sound windows 10
no sound after windows 10 install
asus no sound windows 10
bluetooth no sound windows 10
no sound in browser windows 10
no sound from windows 10 computer
no sound on my windows 10 computer
chrome no sound windows 10
headphones connected but no sound windows 10

Though it’s not common, occasionally you may run into the error: “Windows could not “Start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer”. This usually occurs because the audio service is not running due to a crash and is unable to restart itself.

When the audio service is not running, you’ll have no sound across your entire system, which can get very frustrating. Worse, it may persist even after a restart. This is because the Windows Audio service is set to automatically run-on startup, but it’s failing and producing the error.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Huawei and Samsung.
