Flashforward (1999) by Robert J. Sawyer
The story follows the life of a scientist who works on the collider project, and it's actually pretty slow and boring. No FBI agents are chasing infinitely-nested conspiracy theories like the TV show. But as I said: the book ends like a classic sci-fi novel should.
