Flux - the Audio Visual Experience for Mega CD - Classical Music Edition
WARNING - Contains some flashing images so please be aware before watching.
I hope you are all healthy and safe wherever you are in the World right now and whatever challenges you are facing.
I recently picked up Generations by Remute which is a music album that features Sega Dreamcast visuals (see my other video) if played in Sega's powerhouse console.
It reminded me of the awesome FLUX - which was developed by EXP and released by Virgin Interactive. Essentially it is cartridge you put in the cartridge slot of your Mega CD (Sega CD for those Stateside). Then you can play any audio cd in the machine and the cartridge will create visual effects that react to the music.
There are 25 effects in total and you can achieve quite a range more by tweaking the sensitivity of how the visuals react.
Different music genres work better with some effects than others.
It creates some super cool effects and shows the 16 bit powerhouse off in an interesting way.
In theory you are meant to create a sort of playlist - where you tweak the settings/sensitivity and timings to create a sort of visual accompaniment to your CD but here I just switch through the effects to show the cartridge off. I definitely spent a lot of time back in the day tweaking things though.
People often think Sony made gaming cool and were the ones to introduce gaming into night clubs etc but in the UK Sega's 16-bit powerhouse had already been there, seen it, got the cyber-razor cut and done it!
This is some classical music (to try to avoid copyright strikes but I'll take it down if requested) and features:
Piano Concerto No1 by Tchaikovsky
Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven
Also - let me know what you think. Would you prefer the load times and screens to be edited out? I kinda like the "full experience" approach and to let the game or promo video or whatever to speak for itself but let me know feedback. I'm keen to experiment.
I'm also sorting my loft and finding all sorts of obscurities, oddities and nice games from my collection so I'll be doing some random vids. Let me know if there is a console or game you'd like to see. Let me know if there are any games or consoles you'd like videos about. Let me know if you like the format (i.e. no voiceover and the addition of short facts). Want End Cards added to point out other similar videos? I'm just trying things really.
As always game is played on original hardware - no emulation etc This is played via my PAL MultiMega via RGB Scart via a Retrotink 5X (for ease of capture).
As always if you enjoy this video let me know.
As always this is uploaded under the Fair Use Policy - no money is being made from this video.
