Despite the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, new flight paths to Haneda Airport introduced to help boost tourism begin operations Sunday. In one of the new routes, planes fly over areas of central Tokyo, including Shibuya, Shinjuku and Shinagawa wards. An estimated 1 million residents and more than 2 million people during the daytime will be directly affected by the new flight paths. But their introduction has triggered a backlash from local residents and former pilots over noise and safety issues.
