Foliage Achieved (Planet Crafter: Episode 015)
Hello, Everyone! I am Josh, AKA ThymeFraym! Welcome to the fifteenth episode of my Long-Form Let's Play of "Planet Crafter".
Edit to Add: First off, I need to come clean: This will, unintentionally, be the last episode of this series as well, not through any fault of the game or lack of enjoyment on my part (We are FINALLY getting into new stuff!). No -- like with the Tiny Tina's series, I screwed up. The short of it is, the issue with episode 013 got compounded as I attempted to prevent that from happening. Episodes 16-18 were recorded, and ready to go. They were really good, too. Then I did a second session. And named it the same thing. Rather than 19-21, I ALSO named them 16-18 and wound up overwriting 3 episodes. About 2.5 hours of footage. About 8 hours of playtime. And there's no save to recover, and when I realized my mistake later, it had been a week and a half since it happened.
And so, this winds up being the end for me, since I don't have the spoons to try a new save/game up to this point in progression (we're talking about 30-40 hours of play, at least), and the game doesn't have incremental saves (understandably).
So, that will be a prerequisite going forward with these unstreamed games: I'm going to stick to titles with incremental save options... so if I screw up again, I only lose the progress I made in the episodes I screwed up. :) Thank you, as always, for your understanding. Now, let's get back to the normal video description:
Come! Sit with me and watch while I take you through a newer-ish format on the channel: a full-completion play-through of the game, and while we will jump cut more to allow for boring resource grinding and transport, you get to see a full run-through of the game, my experiences and thoughts, and all the foibles and frustrations that are bound to come as a result.
While the game is currently still in Early Access at the time of this recording, this is NOT my first full playthrough. I actually completed all of the active End Game content as of May 2022, but there has been some significant expansion of the game since then. So while I may breeze through the first few stages of the game, there is an endpoint where we'll be learning together.
The game itself comes off as a standard craft and survive sim on easy mode if you just look at the surface and the relatively standard visual assets, but looking past that at this clear labor of love developed by a team of only two people, you find a surprisingly deep core game loop with an excellent progression of risk/reward/dopamine hit. And, your actions in game have a constant, visible, palpable impact of the environment, literally and figuratively.
And the story? You're a prisoner, slated for death. But you've commuted your sentence by agreeing to terraform a planet, or die trying. And so here you are, only able to use the resources found on the planet, drip-fed just enough info to get started, looking to make an eventual home for someone else... and perhaps to win back your freedom.
But what lies beneath all this dust and sand?
So come, enjoy the casual survival playthrough! I look forward to your comments and suggestions!
