A Royal Navy helicopter flight will make history next week when it embarks on a full operational deployment in a French ship.

Part of the EU mission to combat pirates off the African coast, the joint operation may not be the first example of two nations working together but it will be the first time there has been integration at such a level for several months at sea.

The 12 sailors and marines from 815 Squadron left Yeovilton last month to join the frigate "Surcouf" in the French naval base of Toulon.

Forces News has been on board for the final test before the pioneering voyage begins.
