The PDSA Dickin Medal – the highest honour available for animals – has been awarded posthumously to Leuk.

The French Navy Commando Belgian Malinois earned the honour after saving the lives of his comrades many times while on operation in Mali.

Leuk was killed in May 2019 on a counter-terrorism operation in Mali after he exposed an enemy insurgent.
