Usually by this point in the game, you've managed to survive some tough fights and put together a very strong build, either with a powerful offense or an impenetrable defense, or maybe both. Weaker builds simply get filtered out in earlier sectors where out-of-depth encounters lurk. Here, enemies pretty much have to get lucky and combine several different factors in order to overwhelm an endgame-quality player ship.

And then, of course, there's the little matter of the Flagship, but that's a static fight with very few random factors. So it's bound to go the same as always, right?
