We finished our discussion of Dune (the board game) today with one student making the observation it reminded him of Cosmic Encounter, which was spot on since the Dune designers' previous game was... Cosmic Encounter.
We then went through the Defs.qc file in Quake, and went through all the built-in functions and global variables available to modders. Everything you do in Quake ultimately boils down to those things, so it's worth going through. We then talked about the various constants set in Defs.qc and how you could make an entire mod just by modifying the file since so much is controlled from there. Weapon damage is not, oddly enough.
