The Game-Key Card is a Nintendo Switch 2 Game Card that does not contain game data. Instead, the Game-Key Card serves as the key to download and play the game. When inserted into the Nintendo Switch 2 cartridge slot, the console will prompt the user to connect to the internet to download the game. Like a normal physical release, the Game-Key Card needs to be inserted in the console to play the game, but the game does not need an internet connection to play.

Releases that come in a Game-Key Card will have a message at the bottom of the game box indicating the Game Card is a Game-Key Card and that for the full game, internet is required. This is similar to the banner on Nintendo Switch games that needed a download for the full game.
