Mientras que juegos como Symphony of the Night copian el estilo de Metroid, y Lords of Shadows parece usar muchas cosas de juegos como Devil May Cry (Como vampiros chupa-sangre...lol), hasta Dracula X (o Rondo of Blood), la franquicia se mantenía como un sencillo plataformero sólido e independiente. De esos primeros 5 juegos, el mejor sin duda es el cuarto, lanzado en 1991 para el SNES, con un control único en toda la franquícia, excelentes gráficas y música, y sobre todo un adictivo modo de juego, Super Castlevania 4 aún se mantiene hoy como un excelente y adictivo juego que ningún fan de los side scroller se debe perder.
