Hey all,

Another longplay video for you guys. This is the somewhat controversial 2004 Gamecube remake of Metal Gear Solid, this one tends to cause contention among the community on whether this is a 'good' game. Personally, I am in two minds myself! However, this is a testament to how Hideo completely smashed it with the original Metal Gear Solid on the PS1. There are a lot of silly moments in the cut-scenes and the re-recorded voice acting can be a bit hit and miss in places (worst offender for me is the Elevator Otacon Codec conversation). The game play mechanics taken from MGS2 can make this game feel a bit like easy mode, equally, it does take some getting used to, as guards can spot from further away etc.

For those unfamiliar with the story. Metal Gear Solid sees players taking on the role of Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from FOXHOUND, a renegade special forces unit. Snake must liberate hostages and stop the terrorists from launching a nuclear strike.

This was played through on a Nintendo Wii using component cables to gain a 480p resolution, connected to the brilliant RetroTINK 5x Pro @ 1080p using the 'smoothing' filter.

This longplay would serve as a good guide or those seeking a bit of high quality recording retro nostalgia.
