[GBVS] Trip Guard Concept - Mids including Projectiles
Read Description for the Trip Guard Rules:
Upon doing research with MightyMar and EdGoneBad, I’ve found out that Trip Guard is in Granblue Fantasy: Versus however, it’s executed under a different set of rules. In most Fighting Games, you can catch the landing frames of a character with a low and get a Trip Guard (Unblock-able attack upon landing) and open your opponent up if they whiffing a jumping attack. (You cannot trip guard them if they empty jump)
Similar rules apply to GBVS however you cannot use a low attack to open your opponent's guard, you use a mid attack. For some reason, the game’s rules don’t allow you to get a proper trip guard with low attacks but they do with Mid’s so when your opponent whiffs a jumping attack you can properly time a mid to get a "trip guard."
I'm not sure why only Mid's and meaty projectiles (Also Mid) cause this instead of Lows but, these are the rules with the extensive research I’ve done. This is a pretty unique rule compared to other fighting games but that is the case for GBVS. Grounded players can punish bad jump-ins when they proper spacing for making the attack whiff. Even if the timing is off, you still have a meaty placed.
NOTE: If the button is pressed low enough to the ground, you will not get the "PUNISH" icon to come up, instead you will see "COUNTER" since the button pressed is still in the recovery frames where you are in Counter Hit state. You are able to counter hit the opponent's landing recovery.
