Hey guys, Altered State here. Welcome to our first episode of Gears of War 4. I will be playing this co-op with Mermaids. In this first episode we are introduced to the gameplay mechanics through a flashback tutorial level. We are introduced to the Pendulum Wars, where instead of fighting locusts, we are fighting other men. We see some familiar faces, through Dom and Cole, and become familiar with usual tropes such as taking cover, tossing grenades, and duel hitting switches. Mermaids and I take a minute to Git Gud, but surprising make it through this whole episode without dying. Correction, without having to revert to a checkpoint. We are both downed several times, but are revived by our teammates. We enter a courtyard and have to hold off waves of enemies with a machine gun, like you do. We are soon overrun and forced to run down to the nearby beach. We flash back to modern day, and general Jinn reminds us of E-day, which started the whole Gears of War franchise. In this new flashback, we get to use the Hammer of Dawn to destroy one of the giant spider crab enemies. After killing it, we have to defend the nearby building against locusts and flying spider things that I can't remember the name of. We have a third flashback, of more soldiers being overrun at the same time Marcus Fenix is working his magic to destroy the main hive of locusts from the first game. This is our final flashback, then we are introduced to the main characters of this game, a new generation of fighters that are not Cogs. This introduction is short and sweet, as we are knocked off our wagon by our first windflare. We will find out what this means next time and will continue here.
