Geeks' Cant RetroPlay: The Champions of Krynn (part 1)
Set as a tale in the years following The War of the Lance, Champions of Krynn is a role-playing video game; released in 1990 for the Amiga, Apple II, Commodore 64, DOS, and PC-98. The first in a three-part series of Dragonlance "Gold Box" games, released by SSI, the game used the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules as a game engine for play.
In Champions of Krynn, the player creates characters, and forms a party to go adventuring with. The gameplay is nearly identical to all games in the series, with combat employing a cavalier projection view of the battlefield. There is no character-transferring system in this game, as it is the first. However, characters from Champions of Krynn may be transferred to the sequel, Death Knights of Krynn.
