Ghost Sweeper Mikami (SNES) Playthrough [English]
431A playthrough of Banalex's 1993 license-based action game for the Super Famicom, Ghost Sweeper Mikami: Joreishi ha Naisu Badii (ゴーストスイーパー GS美神 〜除霊師はナイスバディ〜, lit. Ghost Sweeper Mikami: The Exorcist is a Nice Body).
Since the game was a Japanese-only release, I've translated all of the game's text for this video. There are no fan translation hacks for it at the moment as far as I'm aware, though if anyone wanted to create such a thing, they'd be welcome to use my translation.
Ghost Sweeper Mikami was a manga that was regularly printed in the Shuukan Shounen Sunday magazine throughout the 90s that Toei adapted for an anime series in 1993 and a movie in 1994.
The series follows Reiko Mikami, an exorcist who runs a Ghostbusters-like agency to help deal with the restless spirits that are wreaking havoc across Japan.
The game seems to stick closely to its source material, but I'm not familiar with the series outside of this game so I can't really say for sure.
Things kick off when Mikami wins a statue of the Aegis goddess in a raffle from a local shop. There is a legend that claims that the statue can grant wishes, but it's missing the seven gems that give it its power, so our heroine with the bangin' body decides to hunt them down to become rich beyond her wildest dreams.
It's an action-platformer with a style that reminds me of Kendo Rage (https://youtu.be/3GuZSilaMuQ), but Mikami's game is by far the better of the two. It was published under Bandai's Banalex label but it was created by Natsume, and it shows.
The controls are super smooth and responsive, the graphics are brimming with color and detail, and the soundtrack by Kinyou Yamashita, who also composed the music for the first Castlevania, is excellent.
Ghost Sweeper Mikami is a bit light on difficulty and length and it's very cutesy, but don't let those things dissuade you from giving it a try. It's an extremely polished and fun game.
