GIGANTIC CO2 bubble using Dry Ice | MEGA Live Experiments (Ep 55) | Head Squeeze
In this live video experiment Huw James uses a household mixture to capture CO2 inside a gigantic bubble as it sublimates from dry ice.
We've seen what happens when we produce CO2 as a gas - it increases substantially in volume. This time around we're going to the next level, we're going to try to capture CO2 as it changes from a solid to gaseous form and that means using dry ice.
Dry ice sublimates at around minus eighty degrees celsius, so it can easily burn your hands. For that reason Huw is going to be wearing gloves in this experiment.
Next up we create a bubble mixture with some simple household materials -deionised water, washing up liquid and glycerine. The water and detergent make bubbles and the glycerine stops the bubble from bursting too easily. All of this together will allow us to capture carbon dioxide as it sublimates from the dry ice in a big bubble.
