Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire is one of the hardest PC Engine Shmups ever, it's pure memorization and ships having massive hitboxes (the entire ships), but I cannot deny, there is enjoyment to be found here, given that this was co-developed by the Gate and Lords Of Thunder devs, CAProduction (Red Company).
The main thing in this game is you have to point blank as much as you can to dish out the most damage possible (not recommended with Helena, the slowest one) and save the bombs for the tricky parts, don't bother dodging some of the stuff with the massive ship hitboxes.
I 1CC'd the game today, by grinding it for 10 hours from 11AM to 9PM, because yeah, memo heck. I also cut out the 'cutscenes', because they are basically load times, it's not like they matter.
