Glorious Leader!, a satirical 2D run'n'gun that was set to let players control North Korea's Kim Jong Un, has had its Kickstarter campaign cancelled after the developers were hacked.

Playing as Kim Jong Un himself, players were supposed to fight against the ‘oppressive forces of the United States’, at one point, whilst riding on a unicorn. Similar to Metroid or Metal slug, Glorious Leader! Had you fight through various levels and cities until finally reaching the big bad boss who was, in this case, United States President Barack Obama.

The developers, Moneyhorse, said that they have been targeted several times due to the game's content and received various threats, and so 'aim to reevaluate' their commitment to the project. I take that as meaning ‘get the hell away’, but we’ll see how that goes.

They said:

"As many of you know, over the holidays we were victims of a hack inspired by the attack on Sony. The hackers destroyed data pertaining to Glorious Leader! and other projects we had in development and locked us out of our own computers and wesbite."

So, it sounds like they don’t actually blame those who recently attacked Sony regarding the controversial movie ‘The Interview’, but the parallels are pretty clear – don’t make fun of Kim Jong Un, people. You will get hacked, he’s clearly a sensitive guy.

And I hope that wasn’t taken as me making fun of him, because I would never do that… Because I don’t want to get hacked.

But anyway, Moneyhorse did also admit that they made mistakes regarding pledge levels and rewards, and it seems to me that the game’s kickstarter probably wouldn’t have succeeded anyway with only $16,816 raised of its $55,000 goal, despite looking pretty damn cool.

By which I mean not cool at all. Please don’t hack me.

To wrap things up, though, Moneyhorse said:

"We thank our fans and supporters, and we are sorry to let you down."

SO YOU SHOULD BE!
