NOTE I - The gameplay is unlit because the computer it is running on does not meet the minimum computational power to display the lit version of the game smoothly.
NOTE II - This video has two functions. The first is a test of a continuous run of Mascot Mayhem (including the Interlude) without extreme lag (albeit under minimum graphics). The other function is preparation for the S Rank run.
A few important principles are demonstrated in this run. For one, S Ranks allow 3 deaths. Secondly, shard streaks are overwritten by deaths*. Thirdly, this video proves that it is feasible for the video's creator to complete Zones 1 and 3, and the boss/escape sequence without dying.
As for shard streaks, the details are as follows. Zone 3 has 150 shards, and the S Rank requires 200 (250?) shard streak. Hence Zone 2 requires the last 50 shards to be collected consecutively, and no deaths to occur between the last 200 shards and the Interlude*.
The reason why I emphasize on Zone 2 so much is because of the unpredictable behavior of one of the enemies. For more information, the following video by AngeloPlays should help -- https://youtu.be/MX8kP7Hl7IU?t=53 (00:53 - 3:33)
*Crazy Carnevil was S Ranked with a single death once all but 3 shards were collected. Perhaps the overriding only applies to a "milestone" shard streak (20+)?
