It all started as I got the idea of trying to activate the Athena cutscene while swimming. I accidentally got this to happen instead. I thought this was a great find, so I took the time to create a long video (my longest one yet) showing some strange sights around Realm of Hades while swimming. I still have a lot more footage left, showing the areas to the right, including the whole path until Kratos ends back at The Forge again. Maybe edited and uploaded tomorrow or so.

Normally at this stage of the game, Kratos uselessly rockets skywards if he swims off water surface, and the swimming glitch can't be utilized. But there exists a solution which the developers didn't anticipate: the weakened swimming style Kratos has while in the river. It's a special swimming style which Kratos can safely take with him outside water boundaries! After that, if Kratos uses grapple points or his swimming stance changes to the 'blank' one, you gain complete control of swimming, and voila, the glitch is ready to be used. This wasn't noticed before for some reason... it's likely you have to swim relatively deep back in the river for the weakened swimming style to kick in. Yes, this is probably New Game+ only.

This video shows The Forge first time around. Exploring dead ends. Kratos talking to invisible Hephaestus (while emitting bubbles). Odd camera angles and stuff. Palace of Hades swimming. Interestingly, the water at the Palace main hall doesn't end swimming glitch (doesn't count as water). Kratos activating prompts while swimming, but in vain because he can't solve the puzzle like this. In frustration, Kratos lets himself get mauled by wild dogs and minotaurs.

I'm not sure if getting swimming here would help in a speedrun. You'd lose time a lot at first, but slowly gain it back later on (for example, while swimming you save some time at the climbing bit before Judges). Also, doing all these skips with swimming glitch is 1000 times easier. Inevitably, for skipping half of the game, you must end swimming at Judges, although otherwise it would be possible to take swimming with you to even areas beyond that.
