Step into any retro game shop in Japan, and you'll quickly see that Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) games command surprisingly high prices. But why? There is seems to be a resurgent nostalgia for the console, along with the belief cartridge-based games are more valuable as collectibles than later CD-based titles. And a small publisher, Columbus Circle, is fueling the fire by re-releasing classic titles and even never-before-released games from the Mega Drive era.
Once I found out about this, I went deep down the rabbit hole of modern Mega Drive collecting, and it has been rewarding and interesting experience.
