GoldenChorizoCode Challenge #3 Solution (except Reserve Tank)
8Sorry for the quality of the video, the best that could be done was done. My intention is with this video is to help others to actually get the solution, since I tried for a whole day and these were the results. I hope they were useful and not too hard to read, and if they were I apologize for it. I'm an amateur at editing, and you can clearly tell just by looks.
However, as, for the explanation of the video, I believe the challenge was thought around something, just like how math problems are made for math books. What I mean by that is that when math problems are created, you have the solution of a problem, however, you can always omit some information and make a problem out of it for people to solve it, giving only some clues. And what may have been the solution, in this case, most likely was the strategy used in Low% Speedruns of Super Metroid: In this category, the players go to Wrecked Ship with no Varia Suit, no Hi-Jump Boots, no Wave Beam, no Ice Beam, no Speed Booster and no Grapple Beam, thus not visiting Norfair at first and not using that elevator. That and the fact that they make use of the early Power Bomb route climbing up the Ice Beam Norfair pit through precise wall- jumping makes up only for 4 elevator rides, the 2 Morph Ball ones, the one to access Brinstar, and the one back to Crateria next to Wrecked Ship. This completely fits the challenge, since it only makes use of 4 elevator rides, no out-of-bounds/X-Ray climbing/Artificial Items, low health, and no Suit Upgrades.
But returning to the challenge, Low% Speedruns have a unique pathway. Once the elevator to Crateria is taken, in order to reach the Wrecked Ship the Speedrunner then perform a frame-perfect wall jump off the right side of the Missile platform, and make it into the Wrecked Ship. From there, things are simple: Defeat Phantoon and get the rest of the items.
However, this is easier said than done, which you can clearly see in the video (that and that I suck lol). But the saddest part is that there's Reserve Tank in Wrecked Ship that requires Speed Booster, and I'm literally out of ideas there. That's why I post this, so that people find a solution and maybe find this video useful.
