Gondor Gambolling 19: In which Gryfflet beats up drunks and walks dogs
Gryfflet has been lurking on the outskirts of Tungobel since our last session, so he is quite happy to tackle the invading Corsairs, some of whom are more cooperative than others. He is also fine with rescuing stranded villagers and collecting weapons, but baffled by the insistence upon locking doors while the houses are alight. He locates some stragglers and sets them on the correct path, then returns to Erchar who had sent him to Tungobel. Pausing only to polish off a stray Half-Troll which wanders into the small camp, Gryfflet proceeds southwards in search of Erchar's brother Herion. He bumps into more Half-Trolls and his first Haradrim on the journey which crosses some familiar-looking terrain before arriving at Herion's camp. Herion says he cannot return without finishing his job, then sends Gryfflet to finish said job. This consists of invading a Haradrim camp and slaughtering more miscreants so Gryfflet is happy to oblige. He is intrigued by some of the design decisions but disappointed by the rather lacklustre result of igniting the tents having expected more actual flames. He confronts the leader of the camp, who calls himself the "Eye of Dolgimil", which raises more questions. He finds another camp and puts those questions to some Corsairs who point him towards the enormous lighthouse that he wanted to visit as soon as he learned of its presence. He also rescues a bottle of wine and a dog, one of which moves only slightly faster than the other, and proceeds to the lighthouse where he is tasked with defeating Dolgimil's three lieutenants. The first is easy to spot, the other two not so much, but Gryfflet uses the time to explore this interesting site. Dolgimil turns out to be an Heir of Castamir, brother of Azruthor of whom we heard in the Blackroot Vale. Defeating Dolgimil is a bit challenging but Gryfflet employs low cunning to secure a fast trip back to the north: further than intended but easier than going on foot. He returns to Herion who plans to return to Linhir with Erchar once they have paid their respects to their dead troops, resulting in another swift transfer to Linhir where they all report to Garvir. Gryfflet has some errands still to complete, so he does not expect to be sent on another to find a lost child. He is however intrigued by a reference to "the Sisters" and happily consults with a cranky old man who is said to know of them. With little time left in this session, he clears up as much as he can close to the city then sets out in search of the missing child whom he discovers safe and well in somewhat unexpected circumstances. There is just enough time to discuss upcoming availability before the session closes.
"No, over here…I hate archers!"
"What? Did he shoot me through the house?"
"Down these cliffs, which I'm sure will go well!"
"So…I regret my previous decision, but I am happy to make the same decision again and again?"
"They've actually made a 3-D banner!"
"Is that a euphemism?"
"I like the hanging smoke down here!"
"Well, I found more lootable corpses!"
"This is very unusual in Gryfflet's experience, namely a new-made ruin!"
"This city is confusing!"
"'A ragged doll catches your eye.' Really, it does?"
"We're going to have words later!"
There was so much quest content this week that we had no time for Lore discussion. Credit for the episode subtitle goes to @drowsnake on Twitch.
