GoPro HERO3 WiFi Distance Test (330 METERS) PART 1
Our goal for this test was to achieve a distance of 1 mile using the yagi antennas. Because we didn't have a good location for our test, we were only able to get a maximum distance of 330 meters (.20 miles). We plan to do this again, but first we will need to find a better location with a clear line of sight. Also, we will be designing a much more compact, and mobile setup so that we do not need to use our cars for power.
~Little information about the setup~
We used three Ubiquiti Rocket M2 access points, and two yagi antennas. The GoPro HERO3 broadcasts its WiFi signal, and one of the Rocket M2 APs connects to it. That connection is bridged to another Rocket M2 and transmitted between the two yagi antennas. The connection is completed at the third Rocket M2 at the receiving end. Basically, the GoPro's WiFi network is bridged across the the Rocket M2 APs, and allows us to use our laptop to connect to the GoPro HERO3's video feed via VLC.
If you would like to know how to use VLC to see your GoPro's video feed check out my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8pMkhigRQA&list=SPTFMW47bD0a9i4Zx2Q_THSiZqFszT39Bu&index=34
