It's been a long while since I last did this considering I haven't uploaded any of these in well over 8 months now. Guess I finally got burned out on them for good after going ham with it from March-July last year. But I'm back to finally give it my absolute best shot at one of only 6 license tests I have yet to go for at this point. And this one in particular being one of the absolute hardest. Plus this is the most infamous case among the rare select few tests where the gold target time is harder to reach on the NTSC version than the PAL version. 29.4 seconds on the NTSC version and 29.7 seconds on the PAL version. Using the Delta HF Integrale Rally Car, you must expertly tackle numerous consecutive tight 180 degree hairpin turns towards the end of Tahiti Maze. Easily the hardest of the game's 4 dirt tracks and the hardest section within that track. Obviously being on dirt, your going to slide in every turn so you have to be bold & fearless, yet calculated with how you drift the car.

To gain time, you have to charge in hard then slam on the brakes at the last moment & crank the wheel to make the car slide almost 90 degrees sideways. But then quickly get back on the gas once down to roughly 30 MPH and countersteer so the back end doesn't kick out too much causing you to either go wide on corner exit trying to correct out of it or scrubbing off too much speed from an overly excessive drift angle. It's all about how quickly you get the car pointed straight again so you can properly accelerate the instant you exit each turn. To maximize this, with the exception of the last corner before the finish gate, don't use all of the track to widen your corner exits and instead focus on hugging the inside all the way through & out. That way your already in the proper line going down the straightaway for the next turn. You'll have to be bold with your drifting lines, getting as close to those inside walls as possible without touching them, which is extremely challenging to do when your sideways.

I specifically grinded away at this one until I got a sub 29 time. It took nearly 2 hours and I almost regret every bit of it. And even then I only barely got it with a 28.992, beating the NTSC gold target time by just 4 tenths and the PAL gold target time by 7 tenths. Exactly why I dreaded having to eventually do this one so much. It baffles me how the fastest times currently on YouTube are in the 28.6s. And if you watch those runs, you'd see the potential for 28.5s are definitely there. I was doing this for so long that I eventually started consistently getting gold times, running sub 29.4s, probably around 6 or 7 out of every 10 attempts as I started to get more & more into a rhythm as I desperately tried to finally break into the 28s. My best time prior to this was a 29.006 and I just could not end it on that note. There have been instances in previous license tests where I've grinded away until barely making it into a certain time bracket, but never has it been this close. 0.008 seconds is the closest margin I've ever had since starting my "GT3 - Time Trial Compilation" playlist last year. The previous closest margin prior to that was 0.013 seconds with my 28.987 in license test A-3.
