I tried playing San Andreas and the game kept crashing and then I played GTA 5 and figured out why... I ran over CJ in GTA5 creating a paradox requiring me to go back to the beginning where it all started to reset the time line.

It's dark, it's ugly and there are plenty of problems; it's everything you might expect from the first game to establish an entire genre and that's why it's important. You don't get to Saint's Row without GTA III to set the standard for all others to follow.
