After his first flight around the world in 2004, Matevž Lenarčič is now undergoing a new challenge with an ultra light plane, the Virus SW914, made by Pipistrel, a recurrent winner of the NASA award for the most energy-efficient plane.

The GreenFlight WorldFlight project is an all-Slovenian project that brings together Slovenian companies and their knowledge of aviation and logistics. Pipistrel's Virus can fly over Mount Everest and in temperatures ranging from -50 to 50°C.

Flying an airplane of about 290 kilos (640 pounds), the pilot is expected to fly over more than 80,000 kilometres (50,000 miles), seven continents, 120 national parks, three oceans and cross the equator six times in two and a half months. With 350 litres (92 gallons) of fuel, he will be able to do 4,000 kilometres.

Sustainable development in all areas is a priority policy of Slovenia, which hopes to use this opportunity to invite the entire international community to strengthen their endeavours to protect the environment and solve the climate change issue, protect local cultures and develop friendlier mutual relations.
