Grid Force is an upcoming Grid-Based action game on Steam, that will test your tactics and reactions against a barrage of enemy attacks. You will see my first impressions of the game, having never played it before.

Grid Force explores an underappreciated aspect of gaming, the grid-based battle system. Doing so clearly and distinctly telegraphs the way attacks work, their ranges, AoE and the like. Armed with this clear-cut information you can better plan and approach combat tactical; a skill you'll definitely need in Grid Force: Mask of the Goddess.

Dodging enemy attacks is a difficult task as this game is hectic. Combat is filled with both a large number of attacks and a large variety of attacks, and so dodging alone won't be enough. Making smart use of your limited 'powerful' attacks will be crucial to keep yourself from being overwhelmed. In times of desperate we can always resort to block and deflecting attacks straight back at our enemies; such a wide array of defensive options is a great start but we haven't even talked about attacking back yet!

With a cast of 30 playable characters and your selection of 4 in your current party you'll always have different attacks at your disposal. Further more each character has 3 different attacks of various power, super attacks, buffs and debuffs, the list goes on! With so many possibilities during every encounter and the overall high speed gameplay you'll need to bring your full focus to every battle. And it makes them all so very exciting.

For an Indie game Grid Force is remarkably well polished. Not only do the in battle graphics complement the game's tone, but the intermittent cutscenes are draw in an automated comic book style; a rarely seen story mechanism that brings a freshness to the game and tells the story in an engaging way.
