Just a quick vid I took, comparing the perceivable volume levels of my Factory Overclocked GTX 285 at 100% fan speed, versus my Stock Clocked GTX 470 at 100%.

How much louder the 470 is over the 285.

my stock 470 is easily 2 to 3 times louder than the 285, at least, possibly 4 times more.

Both have the same Reference style coolers for their respective designs. Blower style fans venting out the rear.

Having the Air Conditioner running near the PC also helps accentuate how LOUD the GTX 470's stock reference fan is, or can get.

The Thing that sucks for me, Is I'm not a Headset Gamer, I prefer my 5.1 Home Theater setup for my listening pleasure over headset. So many times that fan will get annoying if I'm not all that absorbed into the game to tune it out.

My 285 is rarely used, except for Folding@Home, occasional game using PhysX along side the 470, or for video transcoding with Badaboom 2.0 if I'm using the 470 for something else at the same time.

Hopefully by the end of the year I will have Two 470's in SLI in the rig (in the new 690 II case in beginning of video) anticipating release for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and some other games.
