Blurred silhouettes rush past gas fortresses and fortified cities, caught by automatic cameras and heavy guns watching over the scarce survivors of the last war. They witness the lives, hatred, and freedom of these fighters, likened to butterflies drawn to an open flame and the bright stars of Meganet, a reality show broadcast worldwide. It doesn't matter who they are: raiders, soldiers, or mercenaries. They couldn’t find refuge behind city walls and braved the desert. Their feelings and thoughts in battle are irrelevant to those watching from the neon-lit domes of cities, who will never comprehend the experience. They won’t see ancient highways emerge from the sand or the trembling mirages of lost cities. They remain oblivious to the unfiltered wind or the roaring radioactive ocean crashing against ruins. What they see are only battles and death. They’ll read names in betting tables and upcoming show announcements but will never know the lives of those viewing through combat vehicle sights, those who chose to burn brightly, if briefly.
