Haddad: Privileged lobby prevailed in IOF MP

🏢 Government Power | Finance Minister Fernando Haddad criticized this Thursday (October 9, 2025) the Chamber's decision to overturn Provisional Measure 1,303 of 2025, which was enacted as an alternative to increasing the IOF (Tax on Financial Transactions). In a video posted on X, he emphasized that there was "a lot of negotiation" for Congress to approve the text, but declared that "the lobby of the privileged prevailed" in the measure's defeat.
"It wasn't carelessness, it was choice. The conscious choice to take away the rights of the poorest to protect the privileged. To shield the same old friends and force cuts against those who need the State most. They chose to sabotage fiscal balance and the people to try to harm the Lula administration," he declared.
