This is the video we made with my girlfriend for the intro of the Halloween 2022 special stream. This year, we went parodying the whole Ouija board stuff and the found footage genre.
I went even more authentic this year compared to 2021, instead of recording everything on a DSLR and then giving the finished video the VHS treatment, we recorded this stuff straight to VHS and it was extremely challenging to do. My camera is a Hi8 camera that has a broken transport, so unfortunately you can't use any tapes in it, so we connected the composite output to my VCR and recorded the stuff there. I had to juggle around quite the lengthy cables to get this to work. For the starting soon bit, it was the same as last year, I rendered a video, played that video through a DVD player connected to the VCR and recorded it from there. There are no digital effects simulating VHS tape wear, this is all 100% authentic.
We shot this on October 28, 2022, trying to avoid the insane grind I had to do because I was too late doing this (on 2021, I filmed everything on the night of October 31st and then edited the video a couple of hours before the stream), so we had a lot more time to come up with more ideas and do more takes.
