Halo 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It is the third installment in the Halo series and continues the story of Master Chief, a genetically enhanced supersoldier, as he fights to save humanity from the alien alliance known as the Covenant.
The game picks up where Halo 2 left off, with Master Chief crash-landing on Earth after the destruction of the Covenant's Halo installation. He teams up with the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) to fight off the Covenant's invasion of Earth and locate the Ark, a mysterious Forerunner installation that is said to be the key to stopping the Covenant's genocidal campaign.
As Master Chief fights his way through various battles on Earth, he is reunited with his AI companion Cortana, who has been lost in space since the events of Halo 2. Together, they journey to the Ark and discover that the Covenant plan to activate a series of Halo installations that will wipe out all life in the galaxy, including the Covenant themselves.
Master Chief and Cortana race against time to stop the Covenant from activating the Halo rings, while also dealing with the betrayal of one of their own, the rogue AI known as the Gravemind. The final battle takes place on the Ark, where Master Chief must defeat the Covenant's High Prophet of Truth and prevent the Halo rings from firing.
In the end, Master Chief and Cortana succeed in stopping the Halo rings and saving the galaxy from destruction. However, the victory comes at a great cost, as Cortana sacrifices herself to save Master Chief and the UNSC fleet from the Ark's self-destruct sequence.
The game ends with Master Chief drifting in space in a cryo pod, unsure of what the future holds for him and the galaxy he has fought so hard to save.
