Showtime recently casted the man the actor Pablo Schreiber, whom you may know from Orange is the New Black, he played “Pornstache” Mendez, AND also played in American Gods. He was casted to play the one and only, Master Chief. Well firstly, this guy’s well built, he’s 6”5, and his voice I could see being pretty close to Master Chief, even from just a casual interview, you might agree he’s got that dry thick voice of a Spartan like Chief. And I think his face could be a pretty close fit to what we saw in Halo 4’s legendary ending, but since Chief is usually quiet, and has practically never removes his helmet, we may not see John’s face a whole lot. Also, I really like this casting, cause come on, this guy even looks like a John. We do know, however, confirmed by KikiWolfkill, that Chief will certainly be a big part of the series. In addition to all that, on Halo Waypoint, it was stated “In addition to finding our Chief, we've also enlisted the help of Yerin Ha, who will play a new character named, Quan Ah. This audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both. I can't wait to see more Halo live-action goodness!”
It was also addressed in an interview that Master Chief has always been a man of few words, and the challenge of characterizing someone like him, in a medium that needs more talking like a TV show. She said, “Yeah, I mean, I think that was one of the interesting challenges going into the TV series, especially, you know, as we do these boot camps for anyone coming on to the show. So all of the department heads and the network and marketing, we’ve done a lot of these to really express sort of what the DNA of Halo and his end of each of the characters in the relationships to each other. And it was sort of the first challenges. You know, if we want to have a dramatic story around the Master Chief around John, we have to be able to have him communicate more. But how do we do that and still keep that stoicism, right? And it’s been sort of that sense of control from him. And so that’s how we think about it. Right? If you hear him more, how does it not feel out of character or untrue of who he is? And that’s just really a dialogue challenge.”
Showtime also described this show as it’s “most ambitious series ever”, and I suppose that makes sense since most of Showtime’s shows have been revolving drama, such as Shameless, Dexter, Weed, Billions, and so on. Although we really have no idea what this story will be about, we DO know they WILL have connections to Halo Infinite. In a recent interview with ShackNews, 343 Industries executive Producer KikiWolfKill affirmed the Halo TV show will have a strong emphasis on characters, creating a more human experience, similar to Forward Unto Dawn. "When we do big live action pieces, we want more time to do what's harder for us to do in games. Things like character development and character focused story-telling. I think we've tried to do a lot of that in the games, but it's just a different medium. And so we wanted to be able to have 9+ hours to explore those stories versus just two hours. For us, being very character focused is very important for this piece." Showtime also declared the aim is to be original and memorable, “It’s our Halo” they said. It was also claimed by Hollywoodreporter.com that Dr Halsey and a new character named “Jenny”, an asian woman about 18 or 20, are also being casted, and is on track to being premiered in 2020. It’s likely the character Jenny, casted Yerin Ha, playing the role of Chief’s duo in the story. Also Nevins at Showtime said, after seen the script, “it will have enormous appeal to Halo fans and also appeal to the Showtime drama fans.””
