Hanadie K interviews USO Abassadors Wilmer Valderramam and Vanessa Lachey
4Today, we are thrilled to spotlight Vanessa Lachey, who will join Wilmer Valderrama as a USO Global Ambassador for 2024. Having dedicated a decade of service as a USO Global Ambassador, Wilmer welcomes Vanessa to this vital role. Together, they are committed to enhancing the well-being of America's military personnel and their families. The USO, a cornerstone of support since 1941, benefits from their combined efforts to further its mission.
There have been many actors, musicians, athletes and entertainers who have joined the USO in entertaining American troops since the organization’s founding in 1941. The list includes everyone from Bing Crosby to Ann-Margret, and of course the indomitable Bob Hope, whose legacy still lives on at the USO. Today, a new generation of entertainers has stepped up to provide service members with a touch of home, just when they need it most. Acting as a bridge between the military community and the American public, these USO entertainers not only express our nation’s gratitude for service members and their families, but also help raise awareness of the important USO mission of keeping service members connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.
As an actor, Wilmer Valderrama has been entertaining audiences for years – but his favorite audience is the American military. Best known for his roles on “NCIS” and “That ‘70s Show,” Valderrama’s passion for giving back to the military community began at a young age. He recalled growing up in Venezuela, where he would often watch Bob Hope’s USO Christmas Shows on television. “I dreamed of the day where I could pay it forward, like he did,” Valderrama said. Years later, he would finally have the chance to do so through the USO.
Vanessa Lachey is an engaging television personality, host and actress, who first gained notoriety when she was named Miss Teen USA in 1998 where she won the title of Miss Congeniality. Since then, she has parlayed her talents and likeability into a successful and thriving acting and hosting career. Lachey currently stars in CBS drama series NCIS: Hawai’I as the first female lead in the long-running franchise and a history-making role in the spinoff. The series follows Lachey’s character Jane Tennant, Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor and returns for Season 3 on February 12, 2024. Lachey also hosts two of Netflix’s dating shows, Emmy-nominated dating show, Love Is Blind, and The Ultimatum alongside husband Nick Lachey. Her hosting credits include MTV’s Total Request Live and the Emmy-nominated Series Top Chef Jr.
