Hey everyone, Thyworm here, bringing you an SSF guide on Harbinger. In this video, I’ll explain everything about the mechanic, including a test I did where I’ve ran 50 maps without scarabs, I’ve run 50 maps with scarabs, and we’ll look at the sirprising results. I have quite a few things to say about Harbinger in SSF. So, let’s dive in.
Let’s first properly introduce Harbinger. Harbingers are monsters you cannot harm directly, but they summon enemies and you kill the harbingers by killing the enemies they summon. Harbingers can drop currency shards, which is mostly why you do the mechanic. It’s important to note that currency shards from Harbingers are not affected by modifiers to Item Quantity - either player or area modifiers. We’ll get into the loot later. What’s interesting with Harbingers is that they do not spawn naturally in maps, unlike most other forms of Extra Content. You have to make an effort getting them to appear, but fortunately, there are plenty of ways to do that. The Ominous Arrival Atlas passive skill, the Harbinger map device crafting option, or by using a Harbinger Scarab. We’re using all three, in fact.
Harbinger as a mechanic isn’t difficult to complete, unlike some other side content. It’s rare you get killed by them, although they can overwhelm in certain cases, or melt your PC in other cases. You know, when Intel isn’t doing that for you.
