We must have travelled back in time to the 80's, because it looks like Harrison Ford is THE hottest actor in Hollywood right now. Though it's been speculated about for some time, producers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove have released a statement announcing they have officially offered Ford a role in their upcoming Blade Runner sequel. This type of move is unusual for producers of a movie to do instead spending their time denying such offers exist. Perhaps they think fan support is what they need to ensure Ford's return? In the statement, the producers said quote, "We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honored, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project." A Blade Runner sequel has been in the works for some time in various incarnations. The original plan was apparently to make it more of a reboot with all new actors, but then things began to change and Ford's name started to be included with the sequel plans which could be just a small cameo to possibly a starring role. Just last year, Ford spoke to IGN and said that he had spoken to director Ridley Scott about reprising his role and seemed opened to the idea. No word yet on what may have changed that made the producers release a statement in an attempt to woo the star. Perhaps Ford's recent return to the Star Wars franchise in what some are saying will be a major role has something to do with it? No word yet on when we can expect Blade Runner 2 to go into production, but we're guessing it won't be anytime soon. Ford will be unavailable for quite some time thanks to Star Wars Episode VII and Scott will be busy until the end of the year working on his next film, Exodus starring Christian Bale as Moses. Scott could direct Blade Runner 2 next year after he finishes up Exodus, but he also recently signed on to helm The Martian, a sci-fi film starring Matt Damon and still has that long planned Prometheus sequel, though it's looking more likely that he will just end up taking a produce role and hire someone else to direct.
