The other couples in the game can get married, before or after your own wedding ceremony. You need to see the 4 rival events in order to get the other couples hitched together.

Rival events will unlock as you progress in game years. The first rival event (black) can be viewed in year 1. The second rival event at the blue heart color can be viewed once you have reached year 2 or beyond, and the rival has been living on the island for 2 years. The green rival event is available after year 3 (and the rival has been living on the island for 3 years), and the last orange one once you have reached year 4 (rival lived for 4 year on the island). This means the other couples can not get married until, at minimum, you've reached your 4th year in the game.

For example, if Pierre does not move to the island until Summer 5, then you can't see Pierre and Natalie's 2nd rival event until after Summer 5 of year 2.

Rival events have the opposite heart color requirements as heart events. The events will be available if the marriage candidate is at or below the black, blue, green, and orange heart colors. If the person's heart color is above the rival event heart color then the rival event will not occur.

For example, if you were playing as the boy character and Sabrina is at a purple heart color, then you can not see the black rival event if you haven't done so already! Sabrina would need to be at a black heart color for the black rival event with Vaughn to be viewable. She would also need to be at a black, purple, or blue heart color in order for you to see their second rival event.

If you are married, then the lower-heart requirement is no longer necessary. Since you have picked your own spouse, the other rivals can freely marry on their own.


One week after you see the orange rival event, the couple will get married. The ceremony will shift over a day if it was going to bump into a festival or if the weather on the wedding day is Rainy, Drizzly, or Snowy. There's only happy sunny days allowed for a wedding!

If you triggered two orange rival events on the same day, the one belonging to the first couple will have their wedding first. The second couple's ceremony will shift over a day.

The rival couples will have children, although they will be portrait-less sub characters. Thirty days after the wedding, visit them inside their house to trigger an event where the girl-partner is ill. Doctor will diagnose her with child, and all in attendance will be happy.

Just like with your own pregnancy, the couple must wait for 60 days before their child can be born. On the other hand, they don't get the luxury of an island birth.


When it is time for Julia, Natalie, Sabrina, or Lanna to give birth, Doctor will come fetch her and bring the couple back with him to Mineral Town. You will be notified in the morning that they have to leave, and you will witness the couple's temporary holiday. The married couple will stay away from the island for 30 days.

After 30 days have gone by, the couple will return to the island with their child in tow. The child will always stay inside their house and does not participate in festivals. The child can not move out if you ignore it for 30 days, much like how the married couple no longer moves out if ignored.
