Heaven's Gate - 1981 Theatrical Cut Ending
Heaven's Gate, a western film by Michael Cimino, was withdrawn after only handful of advance screenings in New York yielded scathing criticism and widespread mockery over its excessive length, and its then-upcoming Christmas 1980 release date was cancelled. Over the course of the next few months, Cimino would re-edit the movie from top to bottom, removing over to an hour of footage as well as re-ordering scenes and adding in alternative and additional footage, for a wide release in July 1981 that unfortunately bombed financially, and garnered equally unfavourable reviews. This cut is rarely seen nowadays, with Cimino's preferred 216 minute director's cut being presented almost everywhere.
Presented here is the ending of the 1981 re-cut of the film, taken from the German 2-disc collector's edition Blu-Ray. This cut can also be found on DVD in France, Italy, and Spain.
