Hello Puppets! is a VR exclusive comedy-horror game about a puppet possession gone wrong. Now you and your puppet, permanently sewn to your right arm, must work together to survive a house of horrors to get out alive.
This was my first time playing a VR game. I must say the level of immersion in VR titles are on a different level. You really do feel like you are in the game and it feels more real than just simply watching from a screen.
The controls are pretty simple, you can interact with items in the game by grabbing or touching. Sometimes you may have to move your head in certain ways. The main game play loop consists of you watching narrative elements, delivered mostly through your puppet talking to you, and solving puzzles. The puzzles involved things such as grabbing the flag of the right color by looking upwards at a monitor. It sounds simple but it felt real because the movement of your head and hands are mapped one to one.
Overall, Hello Puppets is a pretty solid VR title. It looks sufficiently spooky, and the voice acting is great. The puzzle solving is fun and showcases the unique features of VR. There are plenty of jump scares and an overall sense of tension. The only drawback I could see is that while the puzzles were fun and showed the potential that VR had to offer, it did break the build up of tension. That may or may not be a boon to people depending on what you are looking to get out of a horror game. As a side note, the game should take around two or more hours to beat.
