Considerable amounts of monster slaying and lostlyness. All on a difficulty offered on a specific source port.

The source port I'm using to run this game is called LZ Doom. It comes with this difficulty, 1000 Deaths Await Thee. It doubles whatever monsters possible, multiplies all healing by .6, among other things. It's good stuff.

I'm playing this game using the Raven Midi Pack. Some stomp.

Enjoy!

Check for the Firemace (Tiny Silver Graphic visible at 0:00:04 right corner of where the gray textures meet the brown stones texture). You don't need it that badly but it does help, and that's the earliest place in the level you can check for it. Grab the Gauntlets to lead Afrits away from the door; Gauntlets will save you ammo. Grab the Crossbow to lower the elevators. You have just enough time to grab a Time Bomb for whatever monsters to move out of the way so you can take the elevator yourself. You're equally screwed regardless of which one you take but one I took seems safest. Grab the Firemace saving any ammo + HP.

Clear out first area and maze saving whatever ammo you can. Using the tome here is chill but it's better to save it. Use Morph Ovums on the blue key Disciples. M.O.s are the fastest way of reclaiming some space. Grab the Pheonix Rod before entering the lava bridge area. You do this by crossing a linedef at the green key to lower a waterfall section, this took me too long to figure out. I left it in; my mindlessness made me giggle. Good stuff. The Minotaurs are to the right in the bridge section, on top of a lowering wall. There's Iron Liches on the other side, same reveal deal. The lowering walls are kinda slow, so the only monster that is able to go for you in these moments are the Minotaur with their charge attack. It's not easy but you can take advantage of this to telefrag one of them using the teleporters on the Iron Liches side. Very risky. You can also run straight for the Wings of Wrath, using your position to keep the mons away from the teleporter. Or just do like me and struggle through it.

Once you get up to the maze section, the level becomes easier than Catafalque. It's a different kind of challenge than what is offered by the other maps, relying more on monster control than actual slaughter. That's it on tips by the way. The rest of the maps are pretty basic, skill testy levels.

Song: Turbulence by Eris Falling

Cool level. Confusing and back-tracky but they put monster closets everywhere to catch you off guard. Sadly, a very abrupt end that even I wasn't expecting. Worth playing through if you have access to your weapons from the previous level. Most of the mons drop ammo on death: the Disciples drop Claw Ammo, Sabreclaws drop Hellstaff ammo, etc. You can pretty much go ham with all your weapons for the rest of the episode because of this.

00:44:41-01:05:25 | E5M3 - Quay
Song: Lighthouse by Jimmy

A difficult, fun level with a dumb secret exit.

"Just put it behind a fake wall." - Village Idiot

01:05:42-01:31:52 | E5M9 - Skein of D'Sparil
Song: Schilder's Ladder by dial-up

Copy pasted hallways with meat shields and bullet sponges. Also, there's a maze. 5 thumbs down.

01:32:08-01:44:17 | E5M4 - Courtyard
Song: Death Clause by mrgrimsdale & Jimmy

Comparable to Mausoleum E4's secret level: you kill monsters, intensely, all the way through and you're far better off when you know the whole level. Increased monster density really works with the level design. The minotaur fight is unfair but definitely not an impossible one. Other traps seem designed to murder the player out of this dimension and absolutely require the Invincibility ring.

The almost "forced" I-Ring usage works better here, specifically in the blue room, more than it does in Quay with that one section containing the Minotaur at the end of the hallways with Ophidians on either side of the room. Good ending too. Definitely one of the better levels in the episode.

01:44:36-02:08:45 | E5M5 - Hydratyr
Song: Convergent Kingdoms by AD_79

Kind of annoying. A bunch of snipers in far off ledges to start the level. Perhaps they'd be more fun to fight if I ignored them and fought them from inside? Still, I found most of the fights to be a little on the weaker end of the Heretical spectrum.

02:09:03-02:29:54 | E5M6 - Colonnade
Song: Saltbringer by Jimmy

I do, in fact, recommend this very map on this specific difficulty.

02:30:13-02:52:46 Foetid Manse
Song: Terror Mansion by pcorf

More imposing than it actually is. Could use more monsters. Even in the inside area. It's also very short. Still, it has its challenging points and makes for a decent Penultimate level on this difficulty.

02:53:-03:00:09 Field of Judgement
Song: The Last Guardians by Jimmy

Still kind of a letdown, isn't it?
