One of the ways the new campaign handles difficulty is by including several quest guards that require the player to gather resources. By playing on a lower setting and having initial resources the player is able to avoid having to take some of the harder fights in order to progress. This is shown here by clearing out this Minotaur area, which requires 30 gems to access.
