Hero's Journal 78 - DQ1 - The Dragonlord must fall!
Shoutout to @brab731 for the help with snagging Erdrick's Sword and quick navigation to the Dragonlord's Throne for the end on this one, I super appreciate the live help as we burned through the end of the story!
Dragon Quest 1 was a fun little journey down memory lane, and gave me a good idea of what I needed to expect if I were to try going after another classic JRPG (Like, I don't know, the rerelease of Star Ocean 2 that's about to come out in a month or two that I wanted to stream for all you folx, which happens to be by the same creative team). Nothing too fancy. 0_~
I obviously have my reservations about making comparisons between this game and that, but Dragon Quest really did spur a lot of creativity in the world of RPGs and was very influential in creating a standard of excellence they managed to carry through each of their NES releases. I can't say much for the SNES titles, as they were never released outside Japan, so I know I missed out on a lot of really good stories there too.
And I have to take a step back and look at one other achievement of this specific stream. I've been playing Dragon Quest 1 off and on throughout my life, ever since I was a little girl. It's been about 30 years. I have never, never beaten the game before this stream. This was the first time in over a quarter century, and that number is staggering. I've been gaming for so long, and the industry has grown in great and terrible ways. I hope it's still in a neat place in another 30. I hope it's in a better place long before then.
We show off a bit of artwork I drew -years- ago, and drop into a couple of other games with Gradius I & II, CONTRA, and Metroid 1, which sets off a whole new journey that takes us weeks to go through XD
