This song is not aimed at any person or any group of people. If anything, this is a song aimed at myself & it was made as a form of catharsis. I’m sharing it with you in the hopes that it also gives you a lift.
Over the last few days I’ve done some introspection & have come to believe that there’s almost no point in getting upset with people who have views that are different to mine, (especially people that I don’t know on social media). I’ve come to learn that it’s ok to disagree on things, so long as others views don’t amount to hate speech, and people with opposing views can treat each other with dignity. With all the negative news, the hate & the cancel culture that I’ve been seeing on the internet, I began to feel quite overwhelmed & angry. I was struggling to come to terms with the irony of how those who call themselves liberals could be so cruel to people with views that are different to the popular narrative. It began to affect my thoughts & the content that I was putting out into the world, so I set up measures to spend less time on social media & spending more time doing things that make me happy. Making this song made me happy. Being in Plett with my family has made me happy. I’ve learned that in order to be a positive influence, I need to be in a good headspace, and if I’m not, then I need to take a break.
