After four rounds of close, LMP3, esports racing action, Luca D’Amelio and Christopher Högfeldt finished first and second at Circuit de la Sarthe to wrap up the Le Mans Virtual Series Cup.

Points were awarded after each of the first three rounds, with the championship table setting the grid for the final race. That meant D’Amelio started from pole position ahead of Janos Bracsok for the 45-minute encounter.

At the start, Remi Delorme dived for the lead into Ralentisseur Dunlop, but D’Amelio still emerged as the leader under the Dunlop Bridge.

As the race progressed, with Delorme in second and Högfeldt in third, David Kalocsai closed in on the leading pack. He snagged third from Högfeldt around the outside of Indianapolis, but as he attempted to overtake Delorme the next lap around Tertre Rouge, the two made side-to-side contact, slowing the attacker. In the ensuing melee, Högfeldt simultaneously tapped the rear of Delorme, the latter spinning into the barriers, and moved into second.

There were plenty of mid-field scraps, but the top two were clear in the crucial positions and the Cup Series decided.

D’Amelio and Högfeldt’s prize for their positions in this race means they have qualified for the main show – January 2022’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
