Holy Mother Mary song of praise
Holy Mother Mary song of praise
"Ad Jesum per Mariam" (Towards Jesus through the Virgin Mary) is a term we hear often. But have we lived this adage, and made it a watchword for our own life? Perhaps the process of understanding this will take our entire life, and may day by day the Lord add to us a deeper understanding.
Many of us respect and love Our Lady but with limited understanding, so that when we are asked about Mary by other Church friends, we often cannot answer properly.
The understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church about the Blessed Mother is inseparable from what is described in the Old and New Testaments, which are also passed on in the Holy Tradition, which can be explained as follows:
1. The role of the Blessed Mother has been sketchy in the Old Testament. So, looking at the typology, we can see the link between its description in the Old Testament and its fulfillment in the New Testament.
2. The role of Mary is conveyed explicitly in the Scriptures, especially in the Bible.
3. The role of the Blessed Mother was later conveyed by many Holy Traditions, namely from the teachings conveyed by the Church Fathers, and which were also preserved in the sacred liturgy and by the teachings of the Magisterium, which shows that Mary has always been a part of the history of Church life throughout the ages.
"Ad Jesum per Mariam", this saying is useful for understanding the core of our reverence for Our Lady. Why? Because our reverence for Our Lady is inseparable from our reverence for Jesus. We go to Jesus through the Virgin Mary. So, in principle, it can be said thus:
1. All the titles and honors of Mary that God has given her are for the honor of Jesus Christ the Son, and this honor always falls under the honor of Christ.
2. The basis for reverence for the Blessed Mother is due to her role as Mother of God.
3. As Mother of God, Mary was sanctified by God and took a special role in God's overall plan of salvation.
a. For this reason, God prepared Mary, by being freed from original sin since her formation in the womb (Immaculate Conception). An understanding of the meaning of the Old Testament imagery in its fulfillment with the New Testament describes the holiness of Mary as: i) The New Eve in collaboration with the new Christ the Adam; and ii) the Ark of the New Covenant which contains Christ, who is the Sign of the New Covenant.
b. Mary fulfills her role as Mother of God and cooperates in God's plan of salvation. Mary's cooperation can be seen from her obedience in hearing and practicing the Word of God. Therefore, Mary's cooperation is not only limited by her willingness to conceive and give birth to Jesus; but also faithfulness in raising and accompanying Jesus in carrying out God's mission of salvation. Mary also became a mediatrix / mediator who brought people to Christ, [and this did not only during his life on earth, but also when he returned to heaven].
c. Mary's cooperation with the grace of God which she received resulted in: i) her union with Christ, both while she was living in this world, and when she passed away from this world and afterward in eternal life; ii) By virtue of Christ's sacrifice, Our Lady was taken up to heaven; iii) Mary is the mother of all the faithful, because Christ gave her to us as our mother too; iv) After he was taken to heaven, Our Lady continued to intercede for us to Christ with her intercessory prayers; v) Our Lady was appointed by God to be Queen of Heaven.
4. The influence of Mary's doctrine on us believers.
a. The obedience and holiness of Our Lady is an example for us believers.
b. Mary is the Mother of the Church, our Mother of the faithful.
c. Mary is Mother and Virgin, so the Church is also mother and virgin.
d. Our Lady's ascension to heaven is the final picture for us.
