Honda HR-V | What's New For 2019? | Autotrader
38The 2019 Honda HR-V features the first significant changes made to this subcompact SUV since it was introduced several years ago. In this video, we go over the many updates made to the styling, feature content, interior and transmission. There are also two new trim levels: the HR-V Sport and the HR-V Touring.
Although the HR-V's styling updates are better shown in the above video, they are most noticeable at the front where the headlights are thinner and the grille adds a Civic like strip above a glossy black honeycomb like insert. The Sport gets extra glossy black trim, whereas the Touring swaps it out for body-colored trim in the same areas.
In terms of features, the top three 2019 HR-V trim levels now comes standard with Honda Sensing accident avoidance tech (forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist). They were previously unavailable. In terms of infotainment tech, the touchscreen interface gains a volume knob, but the rest of the interface retains the same menu structure and lack of physical menu buttons that can frustrate. It is not the same new Honda infotainment system found in the Accord and the Odyssey.
Mechanical changes include those made to the continuously variable transmission (CVT) to improve refinement and drivability. This should be good news, but we expect the modestly powered HR-V to remain one of the slowest vehicles in the segment. The manual transmission has been discontinued for 2019.
Otherwise, we continue to like the HR-V's clever rear "Magic Seat" that yields superior cargo space, versatility and generous passenger room, along with the excellent fuel economy, abundant standard features and relatively low price.
