Hook (SNES) YTF Could I Not Find the Run Button? | Ukiyotei
Steven Spielberg's box office blunder of a Peter Pan sequel spawned a lot of video games.
Ukiyotei is credited with developing this game for Sony Imagesoft, before the publisher turned traitor. They would eventually develop (the far superior) Skyblazer, and some of the design elements are here. The floaty jumps are particularly notable.
Unfortunately, the pace of the game is quite sluggish (even with the run button), the mechanics are extremely simplistic, and the sword-swinging is often too slow to make simple attacks reliable. Much of the game is just walking, jumping, and sword swinging, with the occasional flying bits.
This cartridge is being played on original hardware, but I don't have a manual. I didn't really need one to get past the first 4 stages, but I'm an idiot and forgot to confirm that there's a run button in this game. Which means this game is even more sluggish than it should be. It's too bad that the control isn't very responsive; the simple act of turning around and swinging your sword is difficult enough, which gets me killed on several occasions.
